Sunset Spritz

Tinto de Verano

Red wine and lemon over ice. Spain’s summer drink, made for San Diego afternoons.

  • Red wine spritz
  • ~4.5% ABV
  • 12 fl oz can & draft
  • Light and lightly sweet

Flavor profile

Wine first. Then lemon.

Bright red fruit, a squeeze of lemon, and just enough fizz to keep it light.

Tinto de verano is what Spain drinks when it’s too warm for a glass of red on its own. We kept the character of the wine and took out the weight, so it drinks like a spritz from the first sip to the last.

How to serve

Lots of ice. A lemon wheel.

  1. Chill it hard

Serve ice cold, around 38–42°F. Warm takes the life out of it.

  2. Fill the glass with ice

A tall glass or a wide tumbler, packed to the top.

  3. Pour slowly

Tilt the glass to keep the bubbles. On draft, pour like a beer.

  4. Finish with citrus

A lemon or orange wheel lifts the aroma. That’s it.

Questions

Good to know.

What is tinto de verano?

“Summer red” in Spanish: red wine mixed with lemon soda and served over ice. It’s the everyday summer drink in southern Spain, lighter and simpler than sangria.

Is it the same as sangria?

No. Sangria is soaked with chopped fruit and sugar, often with brandy, and it’s stronger. Tinto de verano is just wine and citrus with bubbles, mixed fresh.

How strong is it?

We’re targeting about 4.5% ABV, roughly the strength of a light beer. Final numbers will be printed on the can.

Where can I buy it?

Not yet. We’re finishing the recipe and lining up our first San Diego bars and restaurants. Follow us on Instagram to hear when it pours near you.

I run a bar or restaurant. How do I get it?

Fill out the tasting form above and we’ll come to you with samples and details on draft and cans.
